• Where to Fish

Venue Reviews: In This Section you will find Links to regional venue reviews. Each review aims to be informative on the fishing you can expect and the best times to be fishing that 'Mark' along with how to get there and what baits to use etc.

Venues reviews can be added to the forum and the best ones are bumped into the Main site and formated into the Shoreangler Review Structure. Many of the anglers submitting good venue reviews have gone on to receive Free Tackle items to review for the site, so there's plenty of incentive for you to give it a go too. Venues that have yet to be reviewed stand the best chance of 'Promotion'.

Don't delay, submit a venue report in the forum as soon as possible. We have a growing collection from the South Coast around Chesil Beach and Poole Harbour but would be delighted to expand on the rest of the UK Coast. ...

Ok, heres a detailed desription of the place I call my second home, South Shields Pier. The pier is technically a breakwater, but nobody really has interest. It is a mile long from the base to the Round End, and a third of the way up there are gates that are locked at night and in bad weather to protect angler (even though the locals still climb around them! but we wouldn't endorse that in any way, be safe.)

There are many marks on this 'Pier' for the varity of anglers and fishing is mainly done over mixed to rough ground. Here's a few of the popular marks.

I could not ignore the great weather forecast for last Tuesday (12 April 2010) So I decided to try an early season trip to Oban to fish for pollack.

Pollack fishing around the Firth of Lorne is in quite shallow water over reefs and rock points. Generally the fish will be in less than 30' depths even in the winter. Unfortunately Spring fishing can be poor as the pollack are more interested in spawning than feeding - but you can only try and the fish always show on the sounder to tease you.

After a 2 1/2 hour drive from Stirling I arrived at the Puffin dive centre, Oban. They have a good slipway and only charge £5 for a launch - best value in the country with access to an area of magnificent scenery and good fishing.

Brighton Marian for Bass. Typically this venue is plagued with day-trippers and what a I would call tourist anglers that have little or no knowledge how to fish this awayday venue. The unthinking angler will lose rig after rig on each cast; the ground in parts is a tackle graveyard and care must be taken to choose the peg that will offer up the fishes.

Sandown. Float fishing from the pier during the summer months produces mackerel, garfish, pollack and the occasional Mullet, use small strips of mackerel or a sliver of sandeel for the mackerel and garfish, ragworm for the pollack and bread for the mullet.

Bottom fishing during the day can produce Plaice and Bass, while at night Pout, sole and Painted ray can be had. The ground is sandy so normal clean ground rigs are suitale, clipped down rigs for distance or running ledger or flappers for closer in. ...
